Gate III — The Final Connection

The Church & The Last Days

Until the King Returns

From Eden to Eternity

We have reached the final Gate.

Behind us lies the entire journey.

Creation.

Rebellion.

The Watchers.

The Flood.

Babel.

Abraham.

Israel.

The Exodus.

The Wilderness.

The Judges.

The Kings.

The Prophets.

The Messiah.

The Cross.

The empty tomb.

The Church.

And now...

we stand looking forward.

Jesus promised to return.

Daniel saw kingdoms falling.

Paul spoke of a mystery.

John saw the Beast, the False Prophet and the Dragon.

And Revelation carries us beyond all of them...

back toward something humanity lost near the very beginning.

The presence of God.

The river of life.

The Tree of Life.

Perhaps the Bible's final story is not primarily about the destruction of the world.

Perhaps it is about:

RESTORATION.

THE CHURCH BETWEEN TWO COMINGS

The Church exists between two enormous events.

CHRIST CAME.

and

CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN.

For almost two thousand years Christians have lived between those statements.

The first Christians expected Him.

The martyrs died confessing Him.

Generation after generation preached Him.

Kingdoms rose.

Kingdoms disappeared.

The Gospel crossed continents.

And still the promise remained:

“Surely I come quickly.”

— Revelation 22:20

The response of the Church is beautifully simple:

“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

That is the heartbeat of Christian end-time hope.

Not fear.

Not obsession.

Not endless calculations.

EXPECTATION.

THE SIGNS — WATCHING WITHOUT CLAIMING TO KNOW

Jesus did tell His disciples to watch.

He spoke of deception.

False Christs.

Wars.

Famines.

Earthquakes.

Persecution.

Lawlessness.

False prophets.

The Gospel reaching the nations.

And He compared these things to:

BIRTH PAINS.

Paul warned of apostasy and deception.

Peter warned of scoffers.

Daniel spoke of sealed words associated with the time of the end.

Revelation describes extraordinary events affecting nations, rulers, economies and the spiritual realm.

So Christians should not dismiss the signs.

But neither should we turn every headline into prophecy.

Jesus gives us both instructions:

WATCH.

and:

YOU DO NOT KNOW THE DAY OR HOUR.

Those belong together.

WHAT IF... BIRTH PAINS ARE ABOUT THE PATTERN?

Perhaps this helps us understand Jesus' imagery.

Wars are not new.

Earthquakes are not new.

Disease is not new.

Deception is not new.

So the existence of one earthquake cannot prove:

“The end has arrived.”

But birth pains are not identified merely because a contraction exists.

They form a pattern.

They become recognizable because something is moving toward birth.

What if Jesus deliberately gave us an image that tells us not merely to count isolated events...

but to watch the whole pattern?

Political instability.

Spiritual deception.

Persecution.

Lawlessness.

Global proclamation of the Gospel.

And events that cause humanity to ask:

Where is this heading?

We watch.

But humbly.

THE SEALED BOOK — KNOWLEDGE AT THE APPOINTED TIME?

Daniel receives extraordinary visions.

Yet he is told:

“Shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end.”

— Daniel 12:4

This does not necessarily predict computers, aircraft or the Internet.

But it does contain an intriguing principle:

Daniel received something whose full meaning was not necessarily available to Daniel himself.

What if prophecy can sometimes be understood more clearly as the circumstances required for its fulfilment emerge?

A first-century Christian could read Revelation.

A medieval Christian could read Revelation.

We can read the same Revelation.

The words did not change.

But the world did.

The Bible does not name satellites, airplanes, nuclear weapons, digital identity, or the internet.

But it does describe an end time in which knowledge increases and many travel back and forth (Daniel 12:4).

A time when the whole world can witness an event simultaneously (Revelation 11:9-10) and every eye shall see Him (Revelation 1:7).

A time when the Gospel reaches all nations (Matthew 24:14).

A time when humanity is confronted with unprecedented destruction (Matthew 24:21-22) and the cities of the nations fall (Revelation 16:19).

A time when an image can be made to speak (Revelation 13:15), and buying and selling can be restricted to those participating in a single global system (Revelation 13:16-17).

The prophecies do not explicitly predict the technology.

But for the first time in history, the technological infrastructure exists that makes such conditions literally possible on a global scale.

Coincidence — or are we seeing the infrastructure emerge of a world the biblical writers described almost two thousand years ago?

Perhaps that should make us neither frightened nor arrogant.

Perhaps it should make us:

ATTENTIVE.

THE RAPTURE — A MYSTERY

Now we reach one of Christianity's most discussed end-time questions.

Paul writes:

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”

— 1 Corinthians 15:51

And:

“The dead in Christ shall rise first.”

— 1 Thessalonians 4:16

Then living believers will be:

“caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.”

— 1 Thessalonians 4:17

The Greek verb behind “caught up” is harpazō—to seize or snatch away.

The Latin translation used rapiemur, from which the English term Rapture ultimately developed.

So the idea of believers being “caught up” is certainly biblical.

The debate concerns when and how it fits into the larger end-time sequence.

BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER?

Christians commonly hold several major views.

Some believe Christ gathers His Church before a final Tribulation.

Others place this event somewhere during that period.

Others believe the gathering described by Paul accompanies the visible return of Christ after tribulation.

Matthew 24 speaks of the Son of Man appearing and His elect being gathered.

1 Thessalonians speaks of believers meeting the Lord in the air.

2 Thessalonians warns about apostasy and the man of lawlessness.

Revelation describes saints enduring persecution.

How precisely do these pieces fit together?

There are sincere Christians on different sides.

Therefore The Triune Gates does not need to pretend certainty where Christians have debated the sequence for generations.

But we can say something with confidence:

Christ returns.

The dead in Christ rise.

Living believers are transformed.

His people are gathered to Him.

However the exact sequence unfolds...

THE KING COMES FOR HIS PEOPLE.

WHAT IF... “MEETING THE LORD” CONTAINS A ROYAL IMAGE?

Here is an interesting connection.

Paul says believers will:

“meet the Lord in the air.”

The Greek word translated meet (apantēsis) can be used for going out to meet an arriving dignitary.

That has led some interpreters to suggest a beautiful picture:

The King approaches.

His people go out to meet Him.

And they accompany their arriving King.

Does that alone settle the Rapture debate?

No.

But it gives us another ancient-world image through which Paul's words can be considered.

Not merely:

people escaping earth.

But perhaps also:

A PEOPLE GOING OUT TO GREET THEIR RETURNING KING.

THE MAN OF LAWLESSNESS

Before the final victory, Scripture describes rebellion.

Paul speaks of:

“that man of sin... the son of perdition.”

— 2 Thessalonians 2:3

He exalts himself.

He is associated with deception.

His coming is:

“after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.”

— 2 Thessalonians 2:9

John's letters use the term:

ANTICHRIST.

John also warns that the spirit of antichrist is already at work.

This is important.

The Bible gives us both:

a present pattern of opposition to Christ

and language Christians have historically associated with a climactic final opponent.

Then Revelation gives the picture still greater dimensions.

THE DRAGON, THE BEAST & THE FALSE PROPHET

Revelation presents what almost looks like a dark counterfeit.

There is:

The Dragon.

The Beast.

The False Prophet.

The Dragon gives authority to the Beast.

The False Prophet directs worship toward the Beast.

Signs are used to deceive.

Economic participation becomes connected with allegiance.

Worship becomes central.

Behind political and religious power stands:

THE DRAGON.

And Revelation identifies him explicitly:

“that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan.”

— Revelation 12:9

Think about those words.

THAT OLD SERPENT.

We have seen him before.

EDEN → REVELATION

Now suddenly the beginning and ending of Scripture touch.

In Genesis:

The serpent deceives humanity.

In Revelation:

The old serpent deceives the world.

In Genesis:

Humanity loses access to the Tree of Life.

In Revelation:

The Tree of Life appears again.

In Genesis:

A curse enters.

In Revelation:

“there shall be no more curse.”

— Revelation 22:3

In Genesis:

Death enters humanity's story.

In Revelation:

“there shall be no more death.”

— Revelation 21:4

This is not accidental similarity.

Revelation deliberately uses imagery that brings us back toward Genesis.

The final chapters answer the opening chapters.

WHAT IF... THE FINAL REBELLION IS THE FIRST REBELLION'S LAST STAND?

Now remember our earlier Journeys.

We explored rebellion in the unseen realm.

The serpent.

The Watchers tradition.

Babel.

The nations.

Daniel's heavenly princes.

Demons recognizing Jesus.

Paul's principalities and powers.

The Dragon in Revelation.

What if these are not disconnected supernatural episodes?

What if Scripture is gradually revealing different stages of one enormous rebellion against God's rule?

Then the Last Days are not the sudden appearance of evil.

They are:

THE FINAL STAGE OF AN ANCIENT WAR.

The serpent who whispered near the beginning...

stands exposed as the Dragon near the end.

But there is a crucial difference.

In Genesis he appears to gain ground.

In Revelation...

his time runs out.

THE RETURN OF THE KING

Then heaven opens.

John sees a rider upon a white horse.

He is called:

“Faithful and True.”

— Revelation 19:11

And His title is:

“KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

— Revelation 19:16

The contrast with Bethlehem could hardly be greater.

The first time:

A child.

A manger.

Bethlehem.

Few noticed.

The second:

Heaven opens.

The King appears.

The first time:

Herod sought to kill Him.

The second:

Earthly powers cannot stop Him.

The first time:

He stood before human judges.

The second:

He comes as Judge and King.

THE BEAST AND FALSE PROPHET FALL

Revelation does not end with an eternal struggle between equally powerful good and evil.

There are not two gods fighting forever.

The Beast does not nearly defeat Christ.

The False Prophet does not escape.

Their rebellion ends.

The powers that appeared terrifying throughout Revelation suddenly discover something:

THEY WERE NEVER EQUAL TO THE KING.

The Beast and False Prophet are defeated.

But one enemy remains.

The oldest one.

THE THOUSAND YEARS

Revelation 20 describes Satan being bound and a period of:

ONE THOUSAND YEARS.

Christ reigns.

The saints reign with Him.

This passage has produced several major Christian interpretations.

Some understand the Millennium as a future literal thousand-year reign of Christ upon earth.

Others understand it symbolically as representing Christ's present reign.

Still others understand the sequence differently.

Again, The Triune Gates need not solve every centuries-old debate.

But remember our earlier What If?

Creation:

Six days.

Then:

the Seventh Day — rest.

Certain ancient Jewish and Christian traditions also explored the idea of world history corresponding symbolically to a week of millennia.

And Revelation uniquely gives us:

a thousand-year reign.

Does this prove our six-thousand-plus-one-thousand-year pattern?

No.

But does it make the pattern fascinating?

Absolutely.

Especially when placed beside:

“One day is with the Lord as a thousand years...”

— 2 Peter 3:8

Not a date calculator.

But perhaps...

an echo worth noticing.

2033 — A MARKER, NOT A PROPHECY

And this brings us back to the intriguing chronological pattern from Journey XIV.

Some traditional biblical chronologies place Christ approximately four thousand years after Adam.

Another approximately two thousand years brings us toward our own period.

If the Crucifixion and Resurrection occurred in AD 33, then two thousand years later brings us to:

2033.

Other chronologies differ.

AD 30 is another major proposed date for the Crucifixion.

The biblical genealogies themselves do not provide an undisputed Creation date.

Genesis Chronologies comparing the Masoretic Text, the Samaritan Pentateuch and the Septuagint
Genesis Chronologies — Three Traditions, One Story

And Jesus explicitly says we do not know the day and hour.

Therefore:

2033 IS NOT A BIBLICAL PREDICTION OF THE SECOND COMING.

But within the pattern we have explored:

  • •~4,000 years → Christ
  • •~2,000 years → our era
  • •six days → seventh-day rest
  • •1 day ↔ 1,000 years as biblical imagery
  • •Revelation 20 → thousand-year reign

...2033 becomes an interesting chronological marker.

Something to notice.

Something to study.

But never something to turn into:

“Thus saith the Lord.”

That distinction matters.

SATAN'S FINAL DEFEAT

Revelation contains one final rebellion after the Millennium.

Satan deceives the nations again.

But this is not the beginning of another endless cycle.

It is the end.

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire...”

— Revelation 20:10

The serpent's story is finished.

Think how long that road has been.

From Eden...

to the final judgment.

The deceiver who helped bring death into humanity's story is finally removed from it.

But Scripture still isn't finished.

Because defeating evil is only half the story.

Now comes:

RESTORATION.

THE LAST ENEMY — DEATH

Paul wrote:

“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”

— 1 Corinthians 15:26

Revelation eventually declares:

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.”

— Revelation 20:14

Death itself reaches its end.

That is extraordinary.

Human history is filled with graves.

Abraham died.

Moses died.

David died.

The prophets died.

The apostles died.

Every empire eventually buried its kings.

But the Bible ends with the claim that death itself is temporary.

The empty tomb of Jesus was therefore not an isolated miracle.

It was:

THE BEGINNING OF DEATH'S END.

THE GREAT WHITE THRONE

Revelation then describes final judgment.

The dead stand before God.

Books are opened.

Nothing remains hidden.

This is the solemn side of restoration.

Evil is not merely ignored.

Injustice is not simply forgotten.

God does not restore Creation by pretending rebellion never happened.

There is judgment.

There is accountability.

And then...

John sees something new.

A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH

> “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth...” — Revelation 21:1

Now listen carefully to what follows:

> “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them...” — Revelation 21:3

There is our Tabernacle theme again.

Remember Exodus.

God told Israel:

Build Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.

Then John said of Jesus:

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

And now, at the end:

GOD DWELLS WITH MANKIND.

The temporary sign has become permanent reality.

---

EVERY TEAR

Then come some of the most beautiful words in Scripture:

> “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes...” — Revelation 21:4

And then:

> “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.”

Look at what is disappearing.

Death.

Sorrow.

Crying.

Pain.

The consequences that followed rebellion throughout our entire Journey...

are being removed.

And God declares:

> “Behold, I make all things new.” — Revelation 21:5

Not:

I abandon everything.

But:

I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.

---

THE NEW JERUSALEM

John sees the holy city.

New Jerusalem.

God's glory illuminates it.

There is no need for the sun or moon to provide its ultimate light:

> “for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” — Revelation 21:23

There is the Lamb again.

Passover.

John the Baptist:

“Behold the Lamb of God.”

Calvary.

Revelation.

The Lamb who was slain...

is present at the centre of restored Creation.

---

THREE GATES ON EVERY SIDE

And then John gives us another remarkable detail.

The New Jerusalem is surrounded by a great wall with:

TWELVE GATES.

But those gates are arranged in a striking pattern:

> “On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.” — Revelation 21:13

Three gates.

On every side.

And upon the twelve gates are written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.

— Revelation 21:12

We should not pretend that Revelation is secretly predicting the name or structure of this website.

It is not.

But after travelling through The Triune Gates, there is something beautifully fitting about discovering this image on the final pages of Scripture.

Throughout our journey, we have repeatedly approached the story through three gates:

SCRIPTURE.

ANCIENT TEXTS.

CONNECTIONS.

Three different ways of looking.

Not three different truths...

but three windows through which we have tried to see more of the same great story.

And now, at the destination of that story, John sees a city whose entrances themselves appear:

THREE AT A TIME.

East.

North.

South.

West.

No matter from which side the city is approached...

there are three gates.

Perhaps that is nothing more than a beautiful coincidence for the name of our journey.

But what a fitting coincidence it is.

Because the gates of New Jerusalem are not there to keep God's redeemed people away.

They belong to the city where God finally dwells with mankind.

And Revelation tells us:

> “the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day...” — Revelation 21:25

The biblical story began with humanity being driven from sacred space...

and the way guarded.

It ends with a city whose gates stand open.

FROM A GUARDED WAY...

TO OPEN GATES.

And beyond those gates waits something we encountered at the very beginning:

the River of Life.

and the Tree of Life.

---

THE RIVER RETURNS

Then John sees:

> “a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” — Revelation 22:1

Water.

Life.

A garden-like city.

And beside the river...

something familiar appears.

Something we have not seen humanity freely approaching since Genesis.

---

THE TREE OF LIFE

> “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life...” — Revelation 22:2

There it is.

THE TREE OF LIFE.

We have returned to where we began.

In Eden, humanity had access to it.

After rebellion, humanity was driven from the Garden.

Cherubim guarded the way.

Access was lost.

But in the final chapter of Scripture...

the Tree stands again.

And this time:

> “Blessed are they... that they may have right to the tree of life...” — Revelation 22:14

The way that was closed...

is open again.

---

THE THREE GATES — THE BIGGER PICTURE

And now, at the end of our journey, perhaps we can finally see why we travelled through three Gates.

GATE I — SCRIPTURE

The anchor.

The story God has given us.

GATE II — ANCIENT TEXTS

Not replacements for Scripture, but windows into ancient beliefs, traditions, expectations and the unseen world surrounding the biblical story.

GATE III — CONNECTIONS

The place where we ask:

What connects?

What repeats?

What points forward?

What if some apparently separate stories are pieces of a much larger picture?

And after travelling from Genesis to Revelation...

one enormous pattern stands before us.

WHAT IF... THIS WAS THE MAP ALL ALONG?

And perhaps this is the final What If? of The Triune Gates.

What if the Bible is not primarily a collection of disconnected religious stories?

What if Abraham, Exodus, Passover, Tabernacle, David, the Prophets, the Cross and Revelation are coordinates on one map?

Different times.

Different places.

Different events.

Yet somehow...

when properly aligned...

a passage becomes visible.

From Creation...

through rebellion...

through covenant...

through redemption...

to restoration.

Not every ancient text fits perfectly.

Not every mystery has been solved.

Not every prophecy can yet be understood with certainty.

And we have deliberately refused to call speculation Scripture.

But perhaps the purpose of the journey was never to answer every question.

Perhaps it was to see:

THE BIGGER PICTURE.

---

FROM THE FIRST GARDEN TO THE LAST

The Bible begins with God creating a world in which He dwells with mankind.

The Bible ends with God dwelling with mankind again.

It begins with a garden.

It ends with a city containing the Tree of Life.

It begins with a serpent.

It ends with that serpent defeated.

It begins with humanity losing life.

It ends with death itself destroyed.

And between those two gardens...

stands a Cross.

---

AT THE CENTRE OF IT ALL

Abraham looked forward.

Moses foreshadowed.

David received the promise.

Isaiah saw the suffering servant.

Daniel saw the Son of Man.

John the Baptist pointed and said:

“Behold the Lamb.”

The apostles testified:

“We have seen Him.”

The martyrs held onto Him.

The Church proclaimed Him.

Revelation awaits Him.

And at the centre of the entire story stands:

JESUS CHRIST.

The promised King.

The Lamb who was slain.

The risen Lord.

The Son of Man.

The One who conquered death.

The One who promised to return.

And the One who says at the end of Scripture:

> “Surely I come quickly.” — Revelation 22:20

And the answer travels across the centuries:

> “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

---

THE JOURNEY THAT BEGAN IN EDEN ENDS IN RESTORATION

The first pages of Scripture tell how mankind lost the way to the Tree of Life.

The final pages show the way opened again.

The serpent does not win.

Death does not win.

The grave does not win.

The kingdoms of men do not last forever.

God has not forgotten His Creation.

The King returns.

The enemy is defeated.

Death is destroyed.

The curse is removed.

God dwells with mankind.

The Tree of Life stands again.

And the long road...

from Genesis to Revelation...

has brought us home.
