Prepare Yourself
The First Hammer Strike
Noah had heard the warning.
He knew what God had told him.
But realization alone does not build an Ark.
There had to be a moment when Noah actually stood up, grabbed wood, and began.
“Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.”
— Genesis 6:22
That single verse says an awful lot.
Noah heard.
Noah believed.
And Noah acted.
The rain was not there yet.
The flood was not there yet.
But somewhere, the first hammer strike sounded.
🔨
And perhaps that is the sound of preparation.
Preparation Begins Before You Need It
A storm is a bad place to start building a ship.
When the waves are already crashing against you, you do not want to discover that you still need to gather wood.
And spiritually, it works no differently.
You do not learn to trust God only when everything collapses.
You start doing that today.
You do not open your Bible for the first time when you completely lose track of what is true.
You get to know God's Word today.
You do not discover how to pray only during moments of fear.
You pray today.
You do not try to develop discernment only when voices are echoing everywhere saying:
“Follow me.”
You learn to test everything today.
Preparation does not mean that you know exactly what is going to happen.
Preparation means that you know where you need to stand when it happens.
The Wise Virgins Understood This
Jesus told a story about ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom.
At first glance, they all seemed prepared.
All ten had a lamp.
All ten waited.
But there was one difference.
“But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.”
— Matthew 25:4
The wise virgins did something before it seemed necessary.
They brought extra oil.
Why?
Because they accounted for waiting.
For darkness.
For uncertainty.
For a bridegroom who might arrive later than they expected.
And when the night lasted longer than anticipated, the difference between looking prepared and truly being prepared became apparent.
What is in Your Vessel?
From now on, that will be one of the most important questions at our shipyard.
Because you can carry a lamp and yet have no oil.
You can own a Bible without knowing it.
You can talk about Jesus without truly trusting Him.
You can spend hundreds of hours on prophecies and yet spend barely any time in prayer.
You can know everything about Watchers, giants, and ancient writings...
...and discover that none of those things will keep you standing when your own world begins to shake.
Knowledge can warn.
But knowledge alone is no Anchor.
Therefore, we fill our vessel before the night falls.
Then What Are We Building?
Not a bunker.
Not a shelter built out of fear.
And this is not a call to put your life on hold and only look for signs either.
Jesus did not call His followers to panic.
He called them to vigilance and faithfulness.
So what are we building?
A life focused on Christ.
We learn to know His words.
We learn to pray.
We learn to trust.
We learn to forgive.
We learn to discern.
We learn to remain grateful.
We learn to help one another.
We learn to be obedient when obedience costs something.
And when we fall, we learn to stand up again and return to God.
Plank by plank.
Day by day.
Not because we are building our own salvation.
But because faith that is truly alive does not just hear — it answers.
Not Tomorrow
This might be the greatest temptation:
“I will start on that later.”
When I am older.
When my life gets quieter.
When I understand more.
When I am certain the end times are near.
When I have done a few other things first.
But no one in the story of the ten virgins knew when the cry would ring out in the middle of the night.
“Behold, the bridegroom is coming!”
And once that cry sounded, there was no more time to make up for years of preparation in a few minutes.
The vessel showed what had happened before that moment.
That is why Jesus says:
“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour...”
— Matthew 25:13
An Ark is Not Built in a Day
And perhaps that is good news as well.
No one asks you to be able to do everything today.
Maybe you barely know the Bible.
Maybe you have never truly prayed.
Maybe you have questions.
Maybe you doubt.
Maybe you even ended up here because of a story about giants and are now thinking:
How did I suddenly end up at a shipyard?
😄
No problem.
Just pick up the first plank.
Read a passage from the Gospel today.
Talk to God today.
Ask Him to teach you who Jesus really is.
Set something right that you should have set right a long time ago.
Forgive someone.
Help someone.
Thank God for something small.
And take another step tomorrow.
Because an Ark does not emerge from one massive act of faith.
Often it emerges from thousands of small moments where someone says:
“Lord, today I want to walk with You again.”
The Second Plank
Plank 1 was:
REALIZATION.
God has spoken. Take His words seriously.
Plank 2 is:
PREPARE YOURSELF.
Not when the first drops fall.
Not when the cry sounds in the middle of the night.
Not when you suddenly notice your lamp going out.
Today.
Noah built while the ground was still dry.
The wise virgins filled their vessels before night fell.
And us?
We grab the next plank.
🔨 Plank 2: PREPARE YOURSELF.
You don't need to know when the rain will start.
You just shouldn't wait to build until it falls.
